Mirror Casting Success
The casting of the first of seven primary mirror segments for the Giant Magellan Telescopes is complete.
Casting completed on the first 8.4 meter (27.5-foot) primary mirror segment. The Giant Magellan Telescope's primary mirror will be comprised of a total of seven segments, providing the resolving power of a 24.5-meter (80-foot) primary mirror - larger than any telescope ever built.
